Dorp recently held a summer celebration that brought together friends old and new to relaunch the hotel. Guests were able to peek behind the doors of Cape Town's best-kept secret. This building is a hidden gem located at the top of Signal Hill in the colorful and historic Bo-Kaap district on the edge of the city centre.
How do you explain the joy of Dorp?
Dorp (meaning 'village' in Afrikaans) is a haven of nostalgic design that blends into the natural landscape, and its size and intricate layout belie its modest whitewashed Georgian façade. It offers a range of rooms, suites, studios and cottages clustered around bird-filled indigenous gardens, terraces and courtyards. Magical nooks, staircases, and whimsical details abound both indoors and out. Guests can rest on benches under old trees and soak up the atmosphere, or take in unparalleled panoramas from the rooftop terrace or Victorian-style glass house. 360% views include Signal Hill, Table Mountain, the harbor, the Atlantic Ocean, and the city below, which transforms into a sea of twinkling city lights after dusk.
This hotel combines Georgian elegance with quirky eccentricity. This hillside haven exudes old-world charm, decadence, and luxury. Each corner of the hotel has been carefully appointed with incredible attention to detail. A grand yet unpretentious place to stay.
Dorp features a collaboration space called The Salon, which is the heart of the hotel. The double-volume space is filled with Persian rugs, plush sofas, bookshelves, artwork, and tall leafy palm trees, creating cozy and inviting nooks and a sense of privacy. Masu. Arched Georgian windows frame Table Mountain and the city, letting sunlight filter into the rooms. The Salon is Dorp's lounge, library, dining room, and cafe, where you can curl up and read a book, relax with a cup of coffee, or just relax and take in the view. The atmosphere is full of creativity and a spirit of intrigue. Gold stenciled lettering on one of the salon walls adds a whimsical and fun touch. In other words, politeness. Original. respect. Psycho (DORP).
The essence of Dorp is that all of our staff members have a genuine sense of warmth and hospitality. We are a big happy family, with constant friendly banter between staff and guests.
stay
The hotel is divided into two wings: Dorp (27 rooms and suites) and Onderdorp below, offering 15 rooms. Each dreamy bedroom, enchanting suite, and charming studio-style apartment is unique and individually decorated. The rooms are charmingly eclectic, with individual touches such as layered fabric selections on every bed and custom scent-infused Dorp bath amenities. There are three communal plunge pools, perfect for relaxing in the sun on long summer days. Access between Dorp and OnderDorp requires a long flight of stairs or a steep climb. OnderDorp has two venues perfect for group events and meetings.
the joy of home cooking
The kitchen is a lively open space with a long patio. Meals can be served in the luxurious salon or outside in the lush courtyard. The food is unpretentious, hearty, classic and more home-style than a hotel. The chefs have perfected dishes that have been on the menu since the hotel opened, including twice-baked cheese soufflé, the famous rotisserie roast chicken, and Dorp's take on the iconic South African favorite, the milk tart. I did. The salon is open for lunch and dinner to hotel guests and locals. Reservations are required.
