Processing to slow down during Ramadan

    Impact – Medium

What is the change? The Islamic month of Ramadan is scheduled to start on May 6th, and processing will be slower as offices in countries where Muslim populations are important will reduce working hours.

What does the change mean? Employers and individuals should forecast shortened opening hours from around May 6th to June 3rd. Offices in many countries will be closed for more than three days on Eid al-Fitr holidays, which will soon follow Ramadan. If possible, employers should submit time-sensitive applications before Ramadan begins.

Implementation time frame: May 6th to June 3rd. Some countries are also beginning to slow down a week before Ramadan. Affected visas/permissions: visas, work permits, immigration-related services. Impact on processing time: Applicants should expect shorter working hours and delays in processing. Business Impact: Employers should consider slower processing when planning their start dates and business schedules.

Background: Ramadan is an age where Muslims are faster from dawn to sunset, increasing the time spent praying and introspection. The month is expected to start around May 6th, but dates may vary for a day or two, depending on local practice. Individual countries usually announce the first day of Ramadan, near the beginning of the month when actual moon sightings have been confirmed. Working hours vary from country to country, and government offices tend to close early. Eid al-Fitr's holiday just after Ramadan will close offices for more than three days in the Middle East, North and West Africa, as well as many countries in Central and Southeast Asia.

Analysis and Comments: It is encouraged to plan ahead and submit time-sensitive applications as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary delays. Anyone in need of services should check with a separate office for Ramadan times when the holidays approach.
