    CNN
    –

Passengers evacuated an American Airlines regional jet on the runway on Tuesday in Augusta, Georgia, smelled something burning in the cabin and saw light smoke.

According to flight tracking site Flightaware, the US flight 5406 operated by PSA Airlines, operated by PSA Airlines, landed in Augusta after a 36-minute flight from Charlotte.

“The cabin was filled with smoke, so we climbed up the wings,” passenger Sean O'Connor said as he recorded a video of the evacuation. “Everyone seems safe.”

The CRJ-900 aircraft experienced “maintenance issues after landing safely in Augusta,” the airline told CNN. “All passengers have derailed and escorted to the airport terminal. Customer safety is our number one priority and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The return flight to Charlotte was cancelled, but the plane was on duty on Wednesday.

Another plane flying the same route from Charlotte to Augusta also experienced mechanical problems, American Airlines told CNN on Wednesday. According to Flightaware, the aircraft, the CRJ-700, was circled and returned to Charlotte about 20 minutes in the air. Three hours later, we took off again and were safe in Augusta.
