Norwegians are to purchase 11 spare CFM International Leap-1B engines to support the Boeing 737 Max 8 Fleet.

A low-cost European carrier said on June 17 that the engine will increase “operational resilience” in a “cost-effective way.”

Delivery is expected in the 2027-2028 time frame.

The 11 engines will be added to two spare LEAP-1Bs already owned by the Norwegians.

The carrier had a maximum of 8S of 25 737 in the fleet, along with 64 737-800 at the end of the first quarter. Later this year, we are expected to receive Max 8 from 50 types of orders.

Norwegian decision follows the announcement by Ryanair on June 10 that it will purchase 30 spare LEAP-1B engines to support the Max 8-200 fleet.
