More than 30 migrants, including two children, have been stuck on an oil rig off Tunisia off the coast of Tunisia for three days and need assistance, the Sea-Watch charity said Monday.
A Sea-Watch-operated reconnaissance plane found the group on the Miskar oil platform on Saturday, with empty rubber dinghy floating nearby, the statement said.
“We were able to later see people were trying to hang out in the blankets on the platform deck and try to evacuate the wind and waves,” he said.
Alarm Phone, the group that runs the Maritime Immigration Helpline, spoke to immigrants on Sunday on X, saying one person has died and the others have been informed that they are sick.
“They haven't eaten in days,” the alarm phone said.
According to Sea-Watch, immigrants were originally fleeing Libya. The charity urged European authorities to act promptly to rescue them.
The European government, eager to curb irregular migration, has signed an agreement with Tunisia and Libya that they will intercept and reclaim sea migrants despite criticism from human rights groups.
