The Middle East continues to dominate the attention of the global aviation industry, with ambitious investments in airlines, airports and supporting infrastructure.

The region is poised for exponential growth, with air passenger numbers expected to increase by 300% to 1.1 billion by 2040. To meet this demand, airports will need to invest $151 billion in capacity expansion.

By 2029, the Middle East aviation market is expected to reach $33.7 billion, and global passenger numbers are expected to reach 20 billion by 2042. Almost half of these passengers will travel internationally, according to the ACI World Airport Traffic Forecast.

The Middle East's role as the world's aviation hub is highlighted by major airport projects. Dubai is building the world's largest airport terminal with 400 gates and five runways, aiming to accommodate 300 million passengers by 2030. Meanwhile, the $50 billion King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is scheduled to accommodate 185 million passengers a year, making it the world's largest airport. Largest airport by capacity.

Regional airports are incorporating cutting-edge technology and sustainability, with major upgrades underway in Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Iraq. Africa is also seeing expansion in its aviation sector, with Ethiopia and Morocco leading the way.

The next Airport Show 2024, to be held at Dubai World Trade Center from May 6 to 8, will highlight these innovative projects. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the event will bring together stakeholders from around the world to improve airport operations, safety and passenger experience. Introducing innovation.

Airlines in the region are also making waves. As of 2023, the 10 largest airlines in the Middle East have ordered 795 new aircraft to meet growing demand. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts that Middle Eastern airlines will achieve net profits of $5.3 billion by the end of 2024, three times the global average profit per passenger.

Cirium says the Middle East is setting new standards in aviation innovation, from hydrogen-fueled aircraft to seamless, touchless travel experiences. Our investments in passenger experience, training and sustainability in the region are redefining the future of air travel and strengthening our position as a global aviation leader.

With its eyes firmly set on growth and innovation, the Middle East is reshaping the global aviation industry and charting a path to a sustainable, passenger-focused future.
