A spectacular rainbow hangs over our cozy new home for the weekend, setting the tone for an idyllic Friday night. With juicy steaks sizzling on the barbecue, plenty of glasses of wine and Glastonbury hymns playing on the TV, you'll find yourself in a well-run Caton Village caravan and motorhome on the picturesque North Yorkshire coast. Our getaway to the club campground couldn't have been more perfect.
The accommodation we chose was one of the site's luxury glamping options, rather than a caravan or motorhome. Benefiting from the Club's Experience Freedom Package, the cabin is equipped with all modern conveniences. Sure, you might feel like you're cheating on your “great outdoors” experience by settling into a chalet-like abode with an enviable kitchen and giant TV.
But it's also a wonderful opportunity to soak up the region's breathtaking rural and coastal scenery while enjoying the amenities we all know so well.

The cabin is spacious and features a cozy living room with a plush settee, an additional seating area and a fully equipped kitchen with oven and gas stove. Outside, there is a comfortable deck area with table and chairs, adjacent to a personal BBQ station.
Sleeps 6 people comfortably, with a pull-out bed on the first floor and a cozy and inviting 'master' bedroom on the second floor. Plus, you'll have your own shower and bathroom in your cabin, so you won't have to worry about shared facilities.
Glamping with Experience Freedom offers all the fun of camping without the fuss and is available in locations such as Brighton, Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds, the Isle of Wight and the Lake District.

Just 6km from Scarborough, the quaint village of Caton has upscale pubs, shops and fish and chip shops all just a stone's throw away. On the first night we fired up one of the two disposable BBQ's included in the package and cooked steaks, burgers and sausages sourced from the very reasonably priced TS Horsley butchers near Scarborough Station and the oven We had a sumptuous English breakfast with fried potatoes.
The next night we treated ourselves to dinner at the well-regarded Falier pub in the village, just a two-minute walk from the campsite. Having featured and won on Channel 4's Four in a Bed in 2021, it was no surprise that the food was exceptional.
My partner had an excellent pork neck dish and I had a delicious venison main course. But what really wowed us were the sensational desserts, offering a range of 'mint flavours' reminiscent of banoffee mud pie and mint aero.

As avid gourmet TV viewers, we are confident that these dishes will definitely be served on MasterChef: The Professionals. The food wasn't cheap, but we had no complaints as we headed back to our cabin, wondering how to finish our splurge.
Fortunately, this coastline is perfect for leisurely hikes. The picturesque trek from Caton Beach to Filey along the Cleveland Way takes several hours, winding along breathtaking cliffs overlooking the North Sea.
Filey itself is a hidden gem, with beautiful houses with sea views and plenty of charity shops to browse. Despite the rural location, bus connections were surprisingly convenient and the bus stop was right outside the campsite.

We spent a day exploring Bridlington. It's a journey of just under an hour through a quaint old village. This classic English resort boasts expansive beaches, delicious fish and chips, and a charming atmosphere.
Our final day was spent in Scarborough, a town affectionately known as 'Scarbados'. We found this island to be a very underrated destination. It's home to stunning architecture, an old-fashioned cable car, and a range of great pubs, including the popular Scholar's Bar, which serves a range of quirky ciders, including rhubarb and blueberry flavours.
As southerners we were happy to find that drinks cost less than £10. Scarborough also boasts a thriving arts scene, and a visit to Scarborough Art Gallery (annual pass £5) was a highlight of our trip.

It's easy to see why this town has remained a popular destination for many over the years. After all the fun, the campground provides a peaceful haven for weary adventurers.
Our visit was outside of the school holidays so it was difficult to make a final judgment, but we felt an incredibly calm and peaceful atmosphere during our stay. My campmates were amiable and courteous, and seemed to retire early, with very little noise heard after 9 p.m.
Once upon a time, we might have been in Glastonbury on this mid-summer weekend. This experience is obviously not that wild, but it's perfect for us these days.
