CAE trains pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, and flight attendants. Last October, CAE began a partnership with NAV CANADA in the training of Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) and Flight Service Specialists (FSS).
“We are excited to partner with NAV CANADA to officially open CAE's first ATS training center,” said Mark Parent, President and CEO of CAE. “As an innovator in the science of aviation learning, CAE is perfectly positioned to partner with NAV CANADA and other air navigation service providers.” (ANSP) aims to meet the growing global demand for air traffic service personnel and train professionals with the advanced skills needed to safely manage air traffic.
“This is an extension of CAE's core mission to make the world safer, and as pilots we know that communication between flight crew and air traffic personnel plays a critical role in the safety of every flight. I can prove that.”
“Air travel is fundamental to Canada's social and economic vitality, and NAV CANADA is located at the crossroads of international transportation and is a global “We're connecting communities and businesses.”
“This partnership with CAE embodies our dedication to operational excellence, preparing for the future of aviation through innovative training and collaboration while ensuring safe and efficient air operations.”
CAE's first partnership in the field of air traffic services is with NAV CANADA, the world's first fully civilian ANSP and the second largest airspace carrier.
The first students will begin training at the new facility in October 2024, and CAE aims to train approximately 500 air traffic professionals by 2028. CAE Instructors utilize NAV CANADA training curriculum and courseware to provide initial training for air traffic controllers and aviation service professionals to students coming from across Canada. NAV CANADA will continue to provide basic training, all specialized courses and on-the-job training, with the second half of Air Traffic Services training being provided solely by NAV CANADA.
“We are very proud of this first partnership with NAV CANADA and are excited to help develop more air traffic controllers and aviation service specialists over the next three years.” said Marie-Christine Cloutier, Vice President of Strategy, Performance and Marketing. He is the head of CAE's new Air Traffic Services (ATS) division. “As ANSP accelerates its airspace modernization efforts, it is important that we place equal emphasis on innovation in training to develop the next generation of air traffic personnel: competency-based training design, advanced instruction delivery; , CAE's turnkey expertise in data-driven technologies can support ANSP in this transformation.
CAE plans to leverage its existing global footprint of more than 70 facilities on five continents and expand its infrastructure to incorporate ATS training wherever demand exists.
