The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a warning to anyone planning to travel abroad, telling them not to. As the government's diplomatic arm, the FCDO plays a variety of roles, including providing regular information to keep travelers safe.
In a new update to X on Friday, the FCDO issued a warning to people planning to travel abroad. The post reads: “Going out to enjoy the nightlife abroad? Remember, drinking spikes can happen anywhere.
“Don't leave drinks unattended or accept drinks from strangers, and arrange return transportation in advance to avoid having to accept elevators in unauthorized vehicles.”
Another FCDO travel checklist urges people to check the latest travel advice for the country they are visiting and to take out appropriate travel insurance “as soon as possible after booking”. You will also need to check your travel documents, ensure your passport is valid, meet the necessary entry requirements of the country you are visiting, and obtain any necessary visas.
You also need to “consider your health.” This means checking the health advice for every country you're visiting, checking if there are any required vaccinations, and checking the rules for bringing any necessary medicines abroad. We also recommend applying for a new GHIC if you are traveling to an EU country or Switzerland and your existing GHIC or old EHIC has expired.
