BA’s Loyalty Transformation: What Agents Need to Know

From April 1, 2025, British Airways will overhaul its executive club loyalty program, rebranding it to British Airways Club and moving to a revenue-based model.

Under the new system, members will earn tier points based on spending, rather than distance traveled or fare class booked. For every £1 (R23) spent on eligible BA flights, members earn one Tier Point.

One of the biggest changes is that members will now be able to earn Tier Points on more than just flights. You can earn points by paying for extras like seat reservations, excess baggage, and even purchasing donations to sustainable aviation fuel.

    focus on spending

Frequent flyers who often book economy class on long-haul flights may find it harder to earn higher status because the new system prioritizes spending over distance traveled.

BA's business customers told Travel News that the changes are likely to impact the way they choose their flights. “I have been a loyal member of BA for many years. This change will impact my spending within the British Airways ecosystem. It now looks like it will be even more difficult to maintain tier status. is.”

According to BA's website, the Tier Points collection period begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st each year.

Travel News spoke to a BA spokesperson about the changes.

“Executive Club changes apply to all members worldwide. Our press release refers to British Pound Sterling. For ZAR and other currencies, airfares are calculated using IATA exchange rates at the time of booking. It will be converted to GBP in the background and based on the converted amount £1 = 1 Tier Point.

“Eligible expenditures include base fares and carrier charges (YQ and YR), but do not include non-airline taxes or fees.

“There were some inaccuracies in the reporting of this change, especially when viewing the current and new thresholds side by side. The new model also had different incomes for members and was completely different from the old model. It cannot be compared.”

    New tier status requirements

    Bronze: 3 500 Tier Points

    Silver: 7,500 Tier Points

    Gold: 20,000 Tier Points
