Emirates becomes world's first autism-certified airline
Emirates has launched a bid to become the world's first 'autism-certified airline' by inviting customers with autism and sensory sensitivities to experience its services.
The International Board for Certification and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) plans to formally award the first designation to more than 30,000 Emirates flight attendants and ground staff in the coming months after they complete initial training. .
The certification process includes ensuring that at least 80% of customer-facing staff complete dedicated training, along with a commitment to continuous training and improvement.
Emirates will also roll out new standards and services to improve the on-ground and in-flight travel experience for customers on the autism spectrum, their families and companions, which will be announced later this year.
For many members of the global autism community, international air travel is an extremely difficult experience or can involve high levels of sensory stimulation and is therefore something to be avoided entirely.
An AutismTravel.com survey found that 78% of families are hesitant to travel or visit new places, and 94% of respondents would take more vacations if they had access to a place with autism trained and certified staff. It has become clear that he is thinking of taking it.
