Air New Zealand will strengthen its senior leadership team with the appointment of a chief safety and risk officer and a chief commercial officer.

The move, announced on January 21, follows a series of high-profile departures by the company's leadership as it addresses continued challenges in its supply chain and travel demand.

Air New Zealand has selected former Qantas executive Scott Wilkinson to lead its commercial operations.

Mr Wilkinson, who will join the airline in the second half of this year, spent 10 years with Qantas and is currently executive manager of digital and direct customer experience.

Air New Zealand said that during his time at the Australian carrier, he had “led a number of major commercial initiatives focused on growing revenue, strengthening distribution capabilities and strengthening Qantas' loyalty program”. .

Meanwhile, the airline will promote veteran Nathan McGraw to chief safety and risk officer. Mr McGraw has been with Air New Zealand for nearly 20 years and will take up his role on March 31.

Mr. McGraw, a trained ATR pilot, currently serves as the airline's general manager of integrated planning. He also held leadership positions in airline operations and safety roles.

McGraw will replace outgoing safety director David Morgan. Morgan will retire and return to the flight deck in early 2025.
