A short ferry that runs less than an hour from Athens' bustling Piraeus port is found in Agistri, a lush, lush gem hidden in the Bay of Salonic. Despite its proximity to the Greek capital, this small island feels the world is far apart.

With its calm beaches, crystal seas and a unique blend of vibrant nightlife and tranquil scenery, Agistri is one of Greece's finest secrets. Part of the Salonic Islands Group is perfect for weekend escapes and quick day trips, along with well-known neighbors such as Aeginha, Polos, Spets and Hydra. The location is an ideal base for adventures hopping across the islands across the Salonic Archipelago.

Today, Agistri's charm lies in its untouched beauty, from forested hills, hidden coves to postcard-friendly beaches. The island offers incredible experiences of its size, from sunbathing and swimming to hiking, cycling and even stargazes.

The Agistri coastline is dotted with gorgeous beaches. The most popular and accessible Skala is shallow, with aquamarine water and soft sand, making it perfect for families and casual swimmers.

With bars, tavernas and shops, Scala is bustling with energy, offering a nightlife touch to those seeking it.

Another coastal village, Megarokori, is more traditional and calm. The white-painted stone house with a terracotta roof exudes authentic Greek charm.

Nearby Megalokori Beach is perfect for those looking for panoramic views and a more relaxed environment. Don't miss a visit to the local cultural centre to explore the archaeological discoveries of the area.

Dragona Beach is a must for anyone seeking quarantine. Surrounded by densely packed pine forests and set along the mountain background, this hidden gem offers tranquility and privacy.

Adventurous travelers often choose to camp here for free, away from the light of civilization, under the star blanket.

Aponisus on the west side of the island is another great place. Protected by natural coves, the turquoise waters are a haven for both swimmers and yachts. A rustic seaside taverna completes the experience and serves fresh Greek cuisine with views of the offshore island.

Agistri lacks the commercial fuss of a large Greek island, but its appeal lies in its peace and credibility. The island is perfect for leisurely bike rides, hiking forest trails, and kayaks along the coast.

It is also a dream destination for snorkeling lovers, or simply floating in a stationary, clear ocean.

Scala in particular offers night owls with small beach bars and outdoor clubs, allowing them to dance under the stars to the sounds of Greek and international music.

Whether you're taking a week to Athens or just passing through, Agistri offers an easy and unforgettable escape to nature and the Greek island culture. Piraeus ferries run frequently and take them within an hour, making them the perfect escape that feels like the world.
