The Minor Hotel, the owner and operator of major hotels, is proud to announce that several South African properties are being recognized as a respected Green Growth 2050. This achievement follows the group's recent success in ensuring platinum certification for 30 properties around the world, and highlights the ongoing commitment to sustainability across the minor hotel business.
Awarded at three levels, the Green Growth 2050 certification recognizes hotels with silver, gold and platinum showing exceptional dedication to sustainability. Minor Hotels have set gold as a minimum standard for all Anantara and Avani properties, reinforcing the company's willingness to meet its global sustainability goals, including its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Lindi Mthethwa, Regional Director Sales & Marketing for Minor Hotels, said: “The Green Growth 2050 Certification reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability across South Africa's property, focusing on achieving five gold and one silver certifications, reducing carbon emissions, promoting responsible resource use, and integrating local communications that exist as part of the operation.”
The following properties in southern Africa have been awarded the 2050 Green Growth Certification:
Royal Livingston Victoria Falls Zambia Hotel Anantara – Gold Avani Victoria Falls Resort – Gold Anantara Bazaru Island Resort – Gold Avani Wind Hawk Hotel & Casino – Gold Avani Gaboron Resort & Casino
The Avani and Anantara brands are specifically directed towards sustainability, both in their operational practices and guest experiences, energy-efficient technologies, responsible sourcing, waste reduction initiatives and commitment to biodiversity conservation.
“Our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of our business and we are proud to have a tangible impact on the environment,” continues Lindy. “These perceptions reflect the concrete actions we have taken to not only reduce the impact of carbon and waste, but also play a central role in the progress of sustainability in the South African region.”
Lindy further commented that sustainability from a minor hotel perspective is not only reducing the environmental impact, but also improving the guest experience. “Across the group’s certified facilities, guests can enjoy local cuisine, eco-friendly accommodation and authentic cultural engagement, allowing guests to indulge in luxury while reducing their environmental footprint, leading their travel options to values.
It is no secret that travelers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of travel. It is also very important to choose a hotel or experience that supports a sustainable lifestyle. Therefore, Green Growth 2050 certification demonstrates that sustainability and luxury are closely linked, while providing an ethically conscious guest security.
