The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is expected to donate $16.5 trillion to the global economy by 2035, representing 11.5% of the world's GDP. According to WTTC's 2025 Economic Impact Study, the total industry contribution this year is projected to reach $11.7 trillion from $10.9 trillion in 2024, indicating a post-travel revival and global travel demand. International visitor spending hit a record $2.1 trillion in 2025, and is expected to surpass the 19 levels before the age of 19 for the first time.
While major markets like the US and China show signs of uneven recovery, other regions, including parts of Africa, can benefit from changing global interests and investment patterns. The sector supports 371 million jobs in 2025 and is expected to grow to over 460 million by 2035. The WTTC emphasizes that this sustainable growth will provide opportunities for emerging destinations, particularly in Africa, to expand tourism employment, infrastructure and sustainable development as global traveler demand evolves.
