Canadian airline WestJet is tightening the new tightening relationship between Delta Air Lines and South Korea's air.
The Calgary-based carrier says the stronger collaboration will allow passengers to book 59 European destinations on Air France and KLM flights, which connect Paris Charles Degaard International Airport with Amsterdam's Schiphol airport.
“For guests traveling on West Jet Codeshare flights between Air France and KLM, they enjoy the convenience of booking the entire trip with just one ticket,” the airline says.
Westjet is increasingly focused on international flights, with new European routes from Halifax and St. John's and a recently expanded codeshare partnership expanding its partnership with Japan Airlines, building carrier airline transport flights in Japan.
Carriers also cut routes to major US markets on several routes amid slacking demand for cross-border travel outgoing in Canada.
Westjet says it will focus on domestic and international flights this summer, addressing the dynamics of the shift market.
Last week, Delta and South Korea disclosed plans to acquire 25% of WestJet.
As part of its proposed transaction, which requires regulatory approval, Delta will sell a portion of WestJet's shares to Air France KLM.
Air France, Delta and Koreans are all members of the SkyTeam, but WestJet is not a member of the major airline alliances.
However, all four airlines have worked to strengthen relationships for several years through joint ventures that will adjust schedules and share revenues.
WestJet also has important partnerships with Australia's Qantas and AeroMexico.
