Wesgro, a tourism, trade and investment promotion agency in Cape Town and Western Cape, met with China's Consul General Wenze to strengthen economic ties between the two regions. The discussion focused on expanding market access and promoting sustainable growth is currently the third largest export market in the Western Cape and ranks as the seventh largest source of foreign direct investment in 2024.
The conference also covers South Africa's Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTO) aimed at improving visa access for visitors in China and India. The digital platform allows approved operators to submit group visa applications online, significantly reducing processing time. With China only two South African diplomats, the initiative is expected to increase tourism numbers and support economic growth, reflecting South Africa's broader efforts to streamline travel access for key source markets.
