Vietnam Airlines and Southern China Airlines have joined the joint venture arrangement as they are trying to capitalize on travel needs between the two countries.
Partnerships – The first kind of partnership between China and Vietnamese airlines will begin on August 1st. The two carriers coordinate schedules and codeshares on flights between China and Vietnam.
The joint venture also covers frequent flyer program partnerships and airline check-in for both carriers.
It is based on a partnership dating back to 2010, when both carriers signed codeshare agreements for flights between Vietnam and China.
In 2022, the two operators expanded their partnership to areas such as technical operations and commerce.
“The parties are committed to prioritizing the use of each other's services at the airports they operate, and will coordinate their respective hubs to increase operational efficiency and expand routes,” the two carriers said.
China Southern currently operates up to 111 flights from Chinese cities such as Guangzhou Hub, Shanghai Pudong, Shenzhen and Changsha, with Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang open.
Vietnam Airlines has up to 50 flights to Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Jinan and Wuxi.
