Valentine's Day holds a significant connection in the hospitality industry. Because it offers a great opportunity to harness the couple's desire for a special experience. I spoke to the team at IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management (IIEHSM) and asked how it would affect the sector and here's what they said.
1. Increased bookings
Restaurant: Many couples choose to eat on Valentine's Day, making it one of the busiest days in the restaurant. Special themed menus, romantic decorations, exclusive deals (e.g., prix fix menus and champagne pairings) are often offered to attract customers. Hotels & Resorts: Romantic getaways are a popular choice for couples. The hotel may offer Valentine's Day packages such as romantic room setups, spa treatments, and breakfast in beds.
2. Upselling and Premium Offering
Many hospitality businesses are taking advantage of this opportunity by offering upgrades and premium services, including luxury suites, intimate dining experiences and customized spa packages.
3. Marketing and Promotion
Theme Promotion: Valentine's Day offers the opportunity to launch a targeted marketing campaign that caters to couples. Hotels, resorts and restaurants often use social media, email newsletters and in-house promotions to promote special packages. Gift Cards: Many establishments offer Valentine's Day gift cards or packages that can be redeemed later, giving them long-term business possibilities.
4. Event Hosting
Private parties and experiences: Many hotels and venues host special Valentine's Day-themed events, including couples' dinner dances, wine tastings, and cooking classes. This creates an additional stream of revenue and provides guests with a memorable experience. Couple Activities: Some resorts and hotels may host certain activities such as couples' massages and scenic excursions.
5. Seasonal staffing
Given the demand during Valentine's season, restaurants and hotels often hire temporary or seasonal staff to accommodate reservations and guest influx, create jobs and boost business.
6. Long-term customer loyalty
By providing a memorable romantic experience for Valentine's Day, we encourage repeat customers to return to anniversaries and other special occasions, contributing to the long-term success of our hospitality business.
IIEHSM MD Renee Hill had the last words. “Valentine's Day is an important event for the hospitality industry, creating opportunities for businesses to drive customer demand, boost upselling, enhance experiences and promote customer loyalty.
“The IIEHSM courses are designed to train and skill people who want to create a career in this exciting, challenging and fulfilling sector.
