Advances Easter and summer holidays rush, travelers are being urged to check their passports. This is set to increase passport fees on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, bringing the spotlight to mandatory travel documents.
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the following changes will occur from this day:
Prices for standard online applications from within the UK will rise from £88.50 to £94.50 for adults, and from £57.50 to £61.50 to £61.50 for children's death application. Children's costs for standard online applications when applying for UK passports from overseas will increase from £101 to £108 for adults and from £65.50 to £70 for Childrensverseas.
The department said the rate hikes will “help to continue moving to a system where home offices meet costs through people who use it, helping to reduce reliance on funding from general taxation. The government will not make a profit from the cost of applying for a passport. Fees include the cost of processing passport applications, overseas consulates, and stolen passports, and processing of stolen passports.”
With these imminent changes, Tom Lyon, director of Compare The Market, highlights some important passport-related points that travelers may not always consider.
Tom advised. “With passport fees set to rise this week, it is even more important to ensure that your passport will be covered if it is lost or stolen during the holidays.
“This can include the cost of a replacement passport, emergency travel documents, new flights and additional accommodations if you need a stay. It is important to shop and compare different travel insurance deals that will help you find the cover you need well.
“Before planning your trip abroad, you need to check the validity of your passport. In most countries, your passport must be valid for at least six months to allow entry. Do not start arranging your travels until you have received your new passport.
