The Foreign, Federal and Development Authority (FCDO) has updated guidance on destinations popular with many UK vacationers. Hundreds of thousands of people travel from the UK to Egypt each year, with new alerts issued on Wednesday afternoons about African countries.
Fresh advice from FCDO explains: “Egypt is a primarily Islamic country. Always respect local traditions, customs, laws and religion. Make sure you don't cause crimes, especially when you visit Ramadan or a religious area.” Ramadan was set up this weekend with Eid El Fit, which is scheduled to be celebrated in Egypt on Monday, March 31st.
Further guidance from Gov.uk said, “Ramadan is the holy month for Muslims. Dates vary by year and country, and you must check this before your trip.”
During this period, holidaymakers and other travelers should not eat, drink, smoke or chew in public during the day, such as by car, loud music or dancing, or swearing in public.
Those currently planning on visiting Egypt would like to say, “We recommend checking the opening hours of shops and restaurants. If a hotel or restaurant serves food or drinks at fasting times, you can pull you away from Islamic guests, for example, on the screen. You can follow the local dress code. Acceptable range.”
