“The new tariffs are not directly targeted at travel, but they have a knock-on effect,” Robert said. “The tariffs will put pressure on the pound. It will make overseas holidays more expensive. If you're planning a holiday this summer, booking now is the best time to book it.”
The pound is expected to weaken against other major currencies. This means that when Brits spend abroad they may be less for money.
“When the pound falls, it affects everyone, not just importers,” explained Robert.
He added: “And if you're planning on traveling to Europe or the US, you start to feel in a pinch when you book a hotel, eat out, or shop abroad.”
Flights are expected to rise in prices as global oil markets respond to ongoing economic uncertainty.
“As summer approaches, by waiting to book holidays, we can see these high rates being incurred that airlines start taking into account oil prices in ticket prices,” warned Robert.
Even those who want to save money by staying in the UK can face higher prices.
“The UK holiday business relies on food, cleaning supplies, and all other imports in between,” the expert explained.
He added: “If prices of these items rise, the costs could be passed on to the customer.”
So, what should people do?
Robert says there is one clear step that Brits should take right now to avoid paying later.
“Lock your pricing to avoid last minute costs,” he advised. “If it's too long, you need to be proactive because you'll need to budget for another holiday instead of the holiday you planned.”
He added: “Taxes are taxes on trade and those costs will be passed on to you and me.
“The price rise has also gradually slowed down, and by the time most people realize it is too late and the deal they were looking for no longer existed.
