Two young tourists expressed their surprise at the unfortunate incident that occurred within an hour of their arrival in Barcelona.

Spain is one of the most popular destinations for holiday makers around the world in the summer due to their warm climate, culture, food and landscape. In fact, millions of people can enjoy summer vacation every year, exploring the vast number of coastal locations and urban areas.

Among the most visited cities is Barcelona, offering the promise of beach relaxation without leaving the city. In fact, the resort is complemented by vibrant cultural life, stunning architecture such as the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, as well as scores from traditional tapas bars and fine dining restaurants.

Unfortunately, however, the city has become one of the least secure in Europe due to a surprising increase in recent thefts.

Barcelona has seen a growing security concern, particularly in human-trafficked areas such as historic centres, public transport and tourist destinations.

Furthermore, pickpockets are increasing frequently, causing residents and visitors alike. This was experienced directly by two young tourists who chose the capital of Catalonia for their holidays.

Taken to Tiktok, user @‌orangieyt shared the incident he had experienced shortly after his arrival. “The first hour at Barcelona and Brian has already been taken away,” they said of their friends.

A Tiktok user explained in detail: “We were walking down a normal street… a random guy approached me, looked at me, grabbed my chain and ran away.”

“Are you leaving Barcelona?” the pair asked at the end of the clip. “Everyone seems suspicious right now.”

Writing accordingly, one Tiktok user and city resident said, “Welcome to Barcelona, I live there and it's becoming more dangerous every day.”

Another apologised for the experience: “Barcelona is the worst in Spain right now, I'm really sorry.”

The third added: “It's completely normal for tourists to want to visit Barcelona. It's one of Spain's most famous cities. But if you're planning to come here, especially for Barcelona, check out the recent rise in crime.

A fourth Tiktok user suggested an alternative destination for holidays, but “Why (why) tourists continue to visit Barcelona? I don't understand, I literally have 1,000 places. For flights.”
