On behalf of the entire tourism sector, we welcome recent announcements from United Airlines. We plan to increase flights to South Africa.

United Airlines recently announced it will expand its African network by introducing new long-distance services from Washington Dulles Airport to Cape Town International Airport. This route was released in November 2022 and was operational three times a week, making it a huge success.

United Airlines’ second African route, which connects Newark to Johannesburg, has been open daily since June 2021, and this route will also be expanded by the airline.

In 2024, arrivals from the United States rose above 430 000 compared to 2023, up by 21,000 or 5,2%. Further testimony of the impact of direct flights in 2023 was introduced in 2023, with arrivals from the US exceeding 409,000 and 1,111,000, exceeding 37.4% of South Africa.

“We welcome this development and announcement from United Airlines to increase the number of flights between South Africa and the US as routes are in high demand and make travel significantly seamless between the two countries. Air transport is an important factor for the tourism sector, encouraging the arrival of Africa, as it makes travel between destinations more desirable, Lille said.

The US is one of South Africa’s top sauce markets and continues its efforts to grow its arrival
From the US to South Africa.
