One of the Asian megacities is often overlooked by British tourists, but there is much to do here. According to population data, there are 34 megacities around the world. These are cities with a population of over 10 million people. Many of these megacities are in Asia, many of them in China and India. However, there is a population of 23.9 million that many Britons are unaware of. But it may be one of the most fascinating places you can visit.
Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh, located in eastern India. When it comes to the world's largest city (by population), Dhaka is ranked 12th behind India's Delhi and China's chili peppers. Dhaka is home to a huge number of residents, but it attracts a small number of international tourists every year. In fact, Bangladesh is not even in the top 100 most visited countries in the world.
One of the top attractions for tourists in Dhaka is Ahshanmanjir, a palace located in the Kumartri region next to the interesting and historic Briganga River that currently operates as a museum. There is also Fort Lalbag, the site of the first battle for independence with the British Empire in 1857.
Another top-rated attraction is the port of the Sadargat River, where tourists take photos early in the morning. Additionally, the city has temples and markets to visit, giving a real touch to the culture and everyday life in this place.
Users of sites like Tripadvisor and Reddit share their thoughts and experiences when it comes to Dhaka. One wrote:
Hwever, Dhaka is not for the faint of heart. Crowds, traffic and noise here become a problem for those who are easily overwhelmed. But if you try to get over it, it can be an interesting experience.
Sharing Dhaka's experience, one Reddit user wrote: “Traffic in Dhaka was the worst I've ever experienced. There's always traffic jams, no matter how long you're in the traffic. From the airport to my hotel (Banani).
They added: “Visiting Dhaka is a raw experience, there is little tourism and you can see the local life of the city. However, visiting Dhaka is also more complicated and expensive. There is little tourism, so there is no hostel.”
Dhaka falls near the top 10 when it comes to the world's largest megacities, but it's been running in other metropolitan areas in Asia. According to multiple sources, the world's most populous mega city is Bengaluru, India.
Following this, Bangkok, Thailand, will be in second place. Bangkok is a familiar place for many tourists, especially backpackers traveling around this region of Southeast Asia.
The other top ten megacities in the world are Beijing in China, Bogota in Colombia, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Cairo in Egypt, Chansha in China, Chennai in India and Chili peppers in China.
