Some of the world's best wonders require US citizens to obtain a visa before takeoff. This is inconvenient to planning a much-anticipated international getaway.
US passport holders can rank 10th among the world passports on the global mobility spectrum, according to the 2025 Henley Passport Index. Passports from 33 other countries provide more global mobility than US passports, while the other two countries are linked to the US for mobility.
This index is a ranking of passports based on the number of countries that holders can access without a visa and is based on data from the International Air Transport Agency.
Singapore is at the top position with passports, which allows owners to travel to 193 countries without first securing a visa. Japan previously held the number one position, but then dropped to second place, accessing 190 countries and joined South Korea.
