Pop icon Madonna welcomed one European destination for having “the most beautiful beach in the world.”
The 66-year-old pop star recently performed to the biggest audience of her career in the white sands of the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. The crowd is estimated to be made up of 1.6 million people watching the performance in awe.
But after achieving a once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment, the singer made a quick pit stop at a suspicious holiday destination along the European coast. Madonna gave her much needed rest in Portugal and visited the charming Praia da Comporta on her trip.
The beach is widely considered to be one of the most elegant beaches on the European coast, and sits quietly in the Allentejo area. To get there, tourists can travel for just an hour and a half after exploring the city of Lisbon. A flight from London to the Portugal capital takes less than 3 hours. Therefore, it is possible to arrive at the beach within 4.
Madonna shared a photo of her time on Instagram, saying, “A trip to Miguel Stanley, my favorite dentist in Lisbon, means that you can meet my music family and friends and visit the most beautiful beaches in the world: Comporta.”
Everyone tends to go to Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve, but Comporta is still a relatively unspoken sunshine escape. Fans and Globetrotters are all wondering about it alike, but what's special about this little-known sunbathing spot?
Beach
The beach itself forms part of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve. In other words, it continues to be well preserved in the original dune vegetation and adjacent forests. The vast, breathtaking beaches in space are far fewer by tourists than other Portuguese hotspots.
It hides away from the hustle and bustle of Portugal's thriving resort, just south of Lisbon, at the tip of the Trojan Peninsula. One of the TripAdvisor reviews said, “To be honest, it's one of the most amazing and beautiful beaches I've visited.
“It's not crowded at all. I visited in the offseason because the beach is so long that you can find the corners in the sky if you walk a little longer.”
town
The beautiful beach is located in Comporta, a small coastal town of Comporta, composed primarily of calm beaches, with less than 1,500 full-time residents and just over 50 square miles.
Many call the village the “Hamptons of Portugal.” Because, like American seaside destinations, we've seen a significant portion of wealthy visitors. The area is thought to carry the exclusiveness of its gorgeous village and refined yet relaxed atmosphere.
Flamingo
Yes, you read it correctly. Many majestic flamingos live in the coastal region of Comporta. Explore the adjacent “animal paradise” and see the sight of a group of pink flamingos in their natural habitat.
Sado Estary Natural Reserve is a much-loved area for shining birds, with sparkling birds gently soaking their side in the natural waters. But they are not alone. The area is believed to have more than 250 bird species.
temperature
Like most spots in Portugal, Comporta experiences true Mediterranean climates in hot summers and very mild winters. Temperatures tend to reach 30°C throughout the summer, but averages around 10°C in winter months.
Proximity to the coast helps to alleviate extreme weather conditions and makes it a great place for agriculture to flourish. For this reason, the area is known for its rice fields and untouched forests.
