A permanent, severe physical condition, able to carry a pack of 25kg in heavy boots on patrol, often without necessities, little rewards, and Game Rangers literally brought life to life in the name of protection. Ran for Rangers is your chance to showcase the support of these selfless individuals, raise money for their good work, and answer fiery questions: “Are you tough as a ranger?”
The fourth edition of Run for Rangers will be held in Babanango Games Reserve in North Zululand from July 25th to 28th, 2025, in collaboration with Project Rhino and Sports For Lives. Two-day rangers and 15 rangers compete in two-day 100km races, leaving limited space for those who want to sign up.
Take the challenge
Harry Bailey, founder of Run for Rangers, grew up in some of Africa's most remote locations, led by his father, dedicated to conservation.
“While at Hilton College (KZN Midlands), I was given the opportunity to meet the incredible people behind Sports for Life and participate in one of their biggest campaigns. “I went to a great school, grew up with an amazing family and didn't want to waste it.”
Bailey brainstormed with his father and famous conservationist Project Rhino team Grant Fould and said the Rangers running idea had come up. The event began as a personal journey for Bailey in 2022, completing the 100km challenge in two days.
“The response was incredible. The idea initially became smaller because it focused on overcoming personal challenges. I was born very early on with many health issues that were hindering me.
The following year, more invited to both Ranger consciousness and funding, and his initial goal of raising R50 000 was more than tripled to R162 000 by the end. The following year, Run for Rangers raised an incredible R600 000, attracting many new sponsors with wide-ranging impacts. The sky is at its limit this year!
“Thanks to Project Rhino, the funds raised from Run for Rangers go directly to the rangers’ specific needs, from providing better equipment to rangers, purchasing horse and dog feed to supporting funding for incredible environmental businesses such as Rhino dehorning.
“Sport for Live has provided us a platform, shared stories, provided broader information on the light forms and dangers of Ranger work, helped to elevate the Ranger's narrative and give them the spotlight they deserve.”
Other ways in which the funds are used are:
・Training to support K9 units
・Air support
・Community education and involvement
– Generate more awareness of the work that rangers have done
・Generate awareness about Project Rhino
Ranger and his family
