June 6, 2025, Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa – The Morkur family announced the reopening of two exclusive safari houses, the Morkuru owners' home and the Morkuru River home, scheduled for September 1, 2025.

In February this year, unexpected flooding caused by three months of extreme rainfall caused an overflow at the Molatedi dam. This led to the Marico River rising up to 10 meters in just 12 hours, affecting the interior of the Morkuru owners' homes and the Morkuru river homes. Fortunately, Morkur farmers remain open and unaffected by the flood. The event was a very emotional moment for the Molkul family team, but it also presented an opportunity. It's an opportunity to rethink and reinvigorate two of Madikwe Game Reserve's most precious private safari retreats.

“In line with its timeless design, comfort and commitment to deeper locations, the Molkl family is partnering with acclaimed interior designers Amy Kidger and Amy Kidger of Heinland Studios to lead the review.

For a redesign, Amy drew inspiration from the lush canopy of Tamboti trees (where “molkul” is Tamboti's Tswana word) and surrounded the house, vibrant African bushes and impressive photo artwork chosen by the owner.

Guests can expect bold and calm interiors, layered with rich colours, natural textures and handmade details that reflect the outside scenery. The palette of okle, rust, deep green and blue is woven into luxurious fabrics, glass cloth wallpaper and tactile finishes to create a warm and charming heaven that feels both high and deep and personal.

When staying at the Morkl owners' home and the Morkl River home, guests look forward to the addition of a brand new fitness room.

“The flood was a moment of sadness for our team, but it naturally reminded us of our own resilience,” says co-owner Ed Zeeman. “The reopening of the Molkle owners' homes and the Molkle River homes is a celebration of the renewal. We cannot wait to welcome our guests to experience these soulful homes with fresh new lights.”

Both properties, together with the Molcle Farm House, continue to offer the concept of Molcle freedom of signatures. Exclusive use stay with a fixed schedule, private staff team, and a tailor-made safari experience for family and friends of all ages.

Bookings are currently open for stays after September 1, 2025 and are subject to existing rates and promotions.
