Mrs. Abra Difa Gomasie, Ghana's Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, calls for a coordinated strategy to enhance the country's tourism offering, citing Ghana's culture, cuisine and lifestyle as core attractions. During a courtesy visit from the Ghanaian Tour Operator Union (Tarta), the Minister emphasized the need to brand Ghana's cultural identity more effectively on the global stage, positioning experiences such as the “Black Star Experience” as an immersive lifestyle package for international travelers. She warned against disjointed efforts within the sector, and warned that lack of coordination could promote informal tourism activities other than regulatory oversight.
During the meeting, Turga president Yvonne Donker expressed concerns about operator marketing services licensed on social media without formal training or compliance, calling for greater regulation and industry cohesion. The union outlined plans to expand tourism beyond traditional centres such as Accra and the Cape Coast through a new skill training programme scheduled to begin next month. Both sides agreed to the importance of mutual marketing, highlighting the number of outbound travel, including the 36,000 Ghanaians who visited South Africa in 2024, encouraging more marketing in the African source market and encouraging Ghana as a competitive regional destination.
