Hiding in Suffolk is a charming British town recently chosen as the happiest place for the right move. The town of Woodbridge made its first list in December. The survey, which has been running for 13 years, involves 35,000 people asking about what they like (or don't like) about their hometown, summarizing their answers and finding out where people are happiest.
Woodbridge's crown is well-earned. The town scored high for its familiarity, sense of community, and excellent and essential services like healthcare and education. Woodbridge is also located at the UK's most beautiful scenic gateway.
With Sutton Hoo's National Trust Property within 10 minutes' drive, there's plenty to explore. From ancient burial mounds to gentle countrysides, this gorgeous place is perfect for your day.
There is also the Deven River, which runs alongside the Woodbridge.
One of the most popular is the Woodbridge to Martlesham Heath route. This will take you along the river bank of my son's breathtakingly stretch. During a three-mile walk, you can see forested areas and fields, and cross the bridge into the fictional village of Martyrsham.
If you'd rather run the river than walk past it. Woodbridge also offers it. Deven Cruise offers a 2-hour journey through the river. This family-run business travels twice a day between May and October. Better yet, the boats are all weather so conditions don't ruin your trip.
Councillor Robin Sanders, mayor and chairman of Woodbridge Town Council, said at the time:
“The happy mood of the residents reflects the vibrant town centre occupied by many independent shops, pubs, restaurants, well-known independent cinemas in the film industry over the years, and especially the beautiful riverside area with historic and unique riverside areas.”
