Construction of the last 88 km of the Harare-Bridge Expressway in Zimbabwe has resumed, marking the final stage of the 580 km major road upgrade. Several contractors, including Masimba Holdings, Exodus and Company, Fossil Contracting and Bitumen World, are actively working to complete the flagship project from August to December 2025. The highways form a critical trade and transport corridor that connects Zimbabwe to other African Development Communities (SADC) regions.
The upgraded routes are expected to improve travel time, facilitate crowding and strengthen regional economic integration by promoting more efficient cross-border movements. Following recent site inspections, local officials expressed confidence in the pace of progress, highlighting the near completion of major segments, such as the Mucheke Bridge. On confirmation, the highway is set to enhance both freight and tourism connectivity between Harare and the Beitbridge Border Post. This is the main link to Zimbabwe's South Africa.
