Brits looking for a sunny break may want to consider an English-speaking island. It's just a short flight from the UK and enjoys a balmy 22 degrees during the winter months.

Just a four-and-a-half hour journey from London, this Mediterranean gem is a welcome escape from the UK's current cold and wet conditions.

With sunshine all year round and flowers starting to bloom in March, Cyprus is perfect for families, with many family-friendly hotels.

The island also offers a variety of activities, from hiking to exploring cultural and historic sites.

Winter is the best time to visit popular tourist attractions without the queues as there are fewer crowds.

Party-goers are drawn to Ayia Napa, one of Europe's top party destinations, while those looking to relax can soak up the island's 300 days of sunshine a year.

A visit to the Troodos Mountains offers stunning views and quaint villages nestled in the valley below.

In a surprising development, there is a ski resort in the Troodos Mountains.

It is located on Mount Olympus and is open from January to March, according to the Mirror.

Vacationers can drive to the slopes and take in some beautiful views along the way.

Located in a valley, the village of Omodos has many restaurants serving traditional cuisine, perfect after a day of mountain hiking.

The village also has a monastery, which you can take tours of. Commandria, a local fortified sweet wine, is popular in the area and can be purchased on the doorstep of locals for between €2 and €5 (£1.61 and £4.23).

Another must-see is Nicosia, the divided capital of Cyprus. After the 1974 civil war, the island was divided into two states: the Greek Republic of Southern Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

A border known as the Green Line runs through Nicosia, making it the only divided capital in the world. Tourists can cross the border at several points.

Other attractions include underwater waterfall hikes, a turtle conservation station, Aphrodite's Rock, the Royal Tombs, snorkeling adventures, Akamas Peninsula National Park, a castle, and even a wellness retreat.
