Embraer shows that many choices for the Airbus A220 via the E2 Regional Jet are thought to be affected by political considerations.
Lott chose to take 40 A220, a mixture of -100 and -300, to arrive the Embraer Fleet from 2027.
They are part of the overall planned fleet modernization that makes up the 84 aircraft, with the rest expected to arrive when the new Warsaw hub airport opens.
The Lot's regional fleet includes over 40 Embraer E-Jets, and began introducing three E2 variants last year.
The asylum to Airbus for the renewal of the fleet prompted a skeptical response from the Emblem. It claims that E2 is the “best aircraft” for its career in terms of economics and sustainability, while respecting Lot's decision.
“But we understand that geopolitics lives in exceptional moments where it plays an important role,” it adds.
Airbus' relationship with the Polish government was strained by the cancellation of the Polish order of the 50 H225M Caracal helicopter in 2016.
However, the French and Polish governments emphasized cooperation with signing the Partnership Treaty on May 9th this year.
The French government said the treaty has marked “new levels of ambition” in strategic areas, including defense and energy.
While Airbus and Lott sought to reject the proposal for a political link between the A220 order and government efforts to strengthen relations, the event to announce the Paris Air Show event was attended by ministers and ambassadors of France, Poland and Canada.
Embraer is unconvinced as it emphasizes the difference in size between the E-Jets and the A220.
The E2 is 13% efficient and “unlike a massive competition” and says it “completely complements” the Boeing 737 Max 8 fleet in Lot.
“The Lot's commonality with the current fleet will save millions of euros upon transition to new aircraft types,” adds Embler.
