A European holiday favorite has been a recent survey that tops the list of the cheapest sunny escape destinations in the world. The Post Office Holiday Money Report has discovered that each year, travelers rate where they get the most value in their money, and that popular areas climb to claim top spots.
Located in Portugal's most southern region, the Algarve is found to be a place where money grows even more than anywhere else. Tops from Portugal's favourite Beat Cape Town and Tokyo, known for its stunning beaches and brilliant golf courses. This study looked at factors that are likely to influence holiday booking decisions, such as exchange rates, cost of eating out, and prices at the most popular tourist destinations.
This study took into account the cost of eight items and created the average cost of the visits that formed the basis for the ranking.
Among them were a three-course meal for two people along with two cups of wine, a bottle of local beer, a can of cola, a glass of wine, a bottle of water, sun cream and insect repellent.
As a result, Algarve was the top player at an average price of £58.95, with Cape Town narrowly beating a score of £59.84 and £63.34 in Tokyo.
The survey found that an average of three course meals cost just 40.33 pounds, while a local bottle of beer cost just 2.12 pounds.
In 2024, the Algarve had a record number of tourists on the island, with 5.2 million visitors traveling.
The tourism boom is thought to be part of its southern location, providing reliable warm temperatures during the summer.
Algarve Tourism boss André Gomes said that record success was attributed to the diverse products of the region, and that “the Algarve is one of the most complete tourist destinations in Europe.”
Famous for its numerous golf resorts and sandy beaches, the area is popular among surfers, with many crowds flocking there every year, experiencing the ideal waves along the undeveloped west coast.
Kuta, a beach resort located south of Bali, came in fourth and Delhi was fifth.
For the rest of the top 10, we saw alternative locations in Europe and Southeast Asia, with destinations in Bulgaria, Vietnam, the Czech Republic, Thailand and Spain completing the table.
