The Big 5 South Africa Impact Awards celebrate the impact of construction by recognizing project excellence, companies, teams and individuals in 12 categories

Cape Town, South Africa | April 24, 2025: Amid a big prediction, the 51 finalists of the third edition of the Big 5 South Africa Impact Awards have been officially released. Celebrating excellence across the built environment, the Big 5 South Africa Impact Awards celebrate the commitment, skills and vision that continues to shape cities and raise communities, and advocacy projects promote sustainable design and construction.
The award, held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa on June 20, 2025, celebrates the winners in 12 unique categories including Contractor of the Year, Leadership Excellence, Women of the Year, Women of the Year, Residence Project of the Year, Commercial Project of the Year, Commercial Project, 2025, and Engineering Consultant Consultant Consultant Project for Digital Projects with Digital Projects. Newly introduced environmental excellence category. This category recognizes individuals, businesses and projects that lead the path to eco-friendly construction. Finalists include the Thaba Eco Village & Lifestyle Center project by Boogertman & Partners. The Let's Be Green Hillbrow project by Green Thumb composting company. Main Reef Water Tower by Murray & Dickson Construction Group.
“As Global Environmental Facilities have committed $49.1 million to environmental projects in South Africa, the industry's shift to sustainable development cannot be denied (source: Department of Environmental Affairs), said Josine Heijmans, Senior Vice President of Construction at DMG Events.
Another important category, Leading Woman of the Year, highlights women who recognized the upstarts of the construction industry and have contributed so much to the community. Finalists in this category include Tshidi Mndzebele of Avenir Holdings, Wendy Cerutti of Turner & Townsend, Nomsa Nhlabathi of Prestige Property Group, and Unathi Mboya of Malibose Building Construction.

The Big 5 South Africa Impact Award nomination was evaluated by an independent panel of industry experts. These judges, who are all leaders in the construction sector, brought their experience and technical capabilities to the process, carefully reviewing entries from project owners, contractors, consultants and key experts in architecture, project management and engineering.
“Climate change has had a major impact on the environment around the world, including South Africa, with temperatures testing infrastructure resilience and rising extreme weather events. Through the Big 5 South Africa's Impact Award, we are emphasizing sustainability, revival and environmental responsibility efforts, promoting those who promote excellence and promote meaningful change. Soon,” said Doramodis, executive director of the President's Climate Commission.
