This beautiful Portuguese city is less well known than the likes of Porto and the Algarve, but has 18C and April highs and cheap beer. Braga in northern Portugal is becoming a popular destination for vacationers looking to enjoy the best of the country's climate and culture, even without the crowds of tourists found elsewhere. Above all, despite the architectural beauty and refreshing climate, it is said to be cheaper than more established holiday hotspots like Capital Lisbon.
According to Financial Tech Firm Wise, which has broken the average cost of living in various international cities, the draft pints of domestic beer cost around 2.50 euros (£2.09). Meanwhile, meals at cheap restaurants are estimated to be just retreating around 9.00 euros (£7.53), while a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant costs around 50 euros (£41.82).
The city is one of the major religious centres of the country in southern Europe and is home to the Chapel of San Frutuso, Portugal's oldest cathedral.
Tourists can also visit Keep Tower, the last wreckage of the castle, which was demolished in 1905.
You can also see the city's history coming to life every year as the Bragaromana Festival transforms its city into ancient Rome, re-established and locals take it to the city of Toga.
It is also a great day trip option for those visiting Porto. The city is accessible from Porto Airport. Porto Airport is only about 45 minutes by train, slightly less by car and an hour by bus.
