South Africans are not impressed
Netizens commenting on @Enca's X-Tweet were not pleased, and some have denounced the country's judicial system.
In a nutshell, I said:
“Only in South Africa, we will clear your name, applaud you, and then we will come to you as if you stole bread from Shoprite. Yesterday, not guilty, and arrested today.
Jumpman said:
“This is Mr. Bean's show.”
Takasio said:
“If that was the same accusation that he was acquitted, it would be an abuse of power. We should always stand up to injustice, regardless of who the victim is.”
Bamuza123 said:
“This is starting to feel like an abuse of power now.”
Edson Round asked:
“How did he get acquitted in the first place? If I were a judge, I probably would have been because I had sentenced so many evangelist pastors to more than a decade of jail for a small charge.”
Eastern Cape Women Celebrate Omotoso's Release
In a related article, briefly reported that South Africans have mixed feelings after a group of women in the Eastern Cape celebrated their release from prison. Omotos became a free man after it turned out not to be a crime of rape, trafficking or sexual assault.
His church member, Jesus Dominion International, celebrated his release in the city of the Eastern Cape. Social media users shared a video of the supporter chanting his name and holding his face to lift the board. Onele deleki, a gender-based violence activist, denounced women and men who celebrated his release.
“The judicial system is so messed up, we're tired of the same thing over and over. The perpetrators are preferred, and the victims are left in the cold so it doesn't matter.”
