The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators Association (TATO) has launched a comprehensive code of conduct and ethics for the Safari Driver Guide, aimed at strengthening professionalism and promoting sustainable tourism practices. The guidelines address seven core areas: environmental conservation, cultural sensitivity, vehicle safety, and guest welfare. The initiative supports tourism growth, particularly at major destinations such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro, by ensuring a consistent, high-quality visitor experience.
The programme starts with training 530 driver guides in Arusha and combines theoretical guidance and practical guidance promoted by tourism and education experts. This code is available in multiple languages, accessible via QR codes, and outlines the standards for responsible tour guides. As Tanzania continues to attract global interest in its iconic wildlife safari, these measures aim to strengthen the country's reputation as an ethical and sustainable tourism leader.
