Taag Angola Airlines receives its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Boeing (NYSE:BA) and shows off the fresh colouring designs of its carrier.
This delivery is the first of four super-efficient widebody aircraft that will strengthen the airline's international reach and modernize the fleet. Fleet upgrades position Angola as an important destination for travelers and commerce in Africa and beyond.
Arrived before Angola's liberation day
The new Dreamliner, leased through Aercap, landed in Luanda on February 4th, just before the Angola Liberation Day celebration.
This milestone marks nearly 50 years since the Taag Angola welcomed its first Boeing aircraft, the 737-200. It highlights the longstanding relationship between airlines and aircraft manufacturers.
“This 787-9 delivery represents a significant advancement in our fleet modernization initiative,” explained Nelson Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of Taag Angola Airlines.
“The aircraft will provide the performance and flexibility needed to meet growing market needs, upgrade the wide body fleet and improve the passenger experience with cutting-edge comfort and technology.”

Taag Angola Current Fleet
The airline currently maintains a diverse Boeing fleet, including five 777-300ers, three 777-200ers and seven next-generation 737s.
These aircraft serve 12 destinations spanning Africa, Europe, South America, and China. With the addition of the 787 Dreamliner, Taag Angola will first expand its European route.
It explores new opportunities in Asian and North American markets and is likely to double its international presence within the next decade.
“The Dreamliner of the 787 is a perfect complement to Angola's existing Boeing fleet,” said Ambei Its Barrek, Vice President of Commercial Sales at Boeing.
“The half-century partnership with TAAG Angola Airlines is based on mutual trust and shared vision. We look forward to continuing this journey of collaboration and innovation into the next generation of air travel.”

Part of the fleet modernization strategy
Ordered in 2023, the 787 Dreamliner stands at the forefront of TAAG Angola's modernization strategy. The cutting edge technology and fuel efficiency of the aircraft reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 25% compared to previous models. It offers excellent passenger comfort through cabin pressure, large windows and advanced air filtration systems.
To support environmental sustainability, Taag Angola Airlines has partnered with Boeing to obtain CO2 emission reduction credits linked to blended sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) through Book and Claims Accounting. Masu.
Local distributors demonstrate TAAG's commitment to providing this credited SAF to nearby airports for use by various airlines, reducing the environmental impact across its operations.

The existence of Boeing's market in Africa
Boeing's market research shows that Africa will need 1,170 new aircraft over the next 20 years. A particular emphasis is placed on fuel-efficient wide body aircraft for long-distance routes.
For over 75 years, Boeing aircraft have served as the foundation for commercial aviation in Africa. Currently, over 60 African Airlines operate around 500 Boeing aircraft. This accounts for almost 70% of the continent's commercial fleet, and Boeing has become an important partner in Africa's aviation development.
