Cheap holiday experts share alternative holiday destinations with Spain, Portugal and Greece, which are not busy at affordable prices.
EM, known as EM's online budget trip, has managed to travel on a budget with a 9-5 job, and plans a low-cost holiday for Tiktok followers. Over the past few years, her hobby has been finding and planning budget breaks for herself, family and friends, including 14 nights in Cancun, including flights under £350 and accommodation.
This time of year, I might start planning my summer vacation, but I'm not sure where I can go without breaking the bank. EM gave three ideas in a video posted to Tiktok.
Montenegro
She was first on her list in Montenegro, a country in the Balkans. In her Tiktok video, EM admitted: “To be honest, I'm one of my favorite countries ever.
She described it as “it's a bit like Croatian, but it's crowded and cheap.” EM said:
“There's the clearest and blurry water I've ever seen and there's a really good value accommodation. Plus, it's a very small country so you can easily move around and fly there from a £35 return.”
She revealed, “This country is Montenegro of the Balkans.” Visit Montenegro's website says the country enjoys two different climates. The coast has a “comfortable Mediterranean climate on 240 sunny days a year” and summer temperatures range from 30 to 35ºC, but in winter it is “wet and mild.”
“The capital, Podgorica, is one of Europe's hottest summers, with temperatures that can exceed 40ºC. Over 1,200m in the summer cools to fresh mountain air and 25ºC temperatures.”
Tourists visiting Montenegro have much to explore. They can wander around the old Kotor city, a medieval walled town with cobblestone streets, historic buildings and scenic views, or take a hike in Lovcen National Park.
Armenia
M welcomes Armenia as a country with “great scenery, beautiful mountains and a load of history.” She also said there are “really friendly people” and it is home to some of the “best brunches” she's ever had.
Budget travelers flew to Armenia for a “return of about £80” and visited the capital Yerevan. Armenia is an inland country located in the Armenian Highlands of Western Asia.
Armenia's climate is described as high-temperature highland continents in summer (about 30ºC to 33ºC in Yerevan) and winter lowest with average temperatures of 1ºC to 3ºC.
Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is marked by architecture from the Great Soviet era, and according to Solo's Holiday, it is called the “pink city” due to the colour of the stone used to construct the city's main structure.
Holidayger is able to run the longest non-stop aerial trams to Armenia's Tatev Monastery, which runs 5.7km between Haritzer Village and the Southern Monastery. Tourists can also relax on the beaches of Lake Sevan and explore the cave village of Koontzzoresque.
Bratislava, Slovakia
Rounding up her list, EM said: “And finally, if you're looking for a weekend break on a budget, the city is perfect. It has a truly charming old town, delicious food, lots of cute coffee shops, an impressive castle with fantastic views, and you can fly from a £28 return.
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia, a landlocked Central European country adjacent to Poland, and is adjacent to Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. The city has warm summers and cold winters, with frequent but light snowfall.
Tourists can visit Bratislava Castle, on the hill above the old town, for panoramic views of the city. There is also a blue church known for its baby blue colour and art nouveau architecture.
