British foreigners come across a “hidden gem” in Spain. And she now lives her best life.
Jade Gartshore (@jadeinspain), originally from Leicester, took her to Tiktok to express her worship for Murcia, the city she now calls her hometown. The capital of the Murcia region in southeastern Spain is rich in history and cultural heritage, sitting in a bank on the Segura River.
It presents architectural blends in Moorish, Gothic and Baroque styles, with stunning landmarks like the Cathedral of Santa Maria and the gorgeous authentic casino de Marcia.
Despite its beauty, Murcia, often referred to as “Rafuerta” due to its lush orchards, is relatively undiscovered by tourists and welcomes 1.1 million international visitors in 2024. This is in stark contrast to Barcelona's 15 million tourists last year.
In her viral video, Jade said, “I left England and moved to Murcia, Spain. I'm in love with it. Watch this. This is my morning walk.”
“I can't believe I live in such a beautiful place in the world. One of my favorite things about living in Murcia is that it is actually a hidden gem.”
She continues.
Looking for inspiration for what you do in Murcia? There's a lot to enjoy there.
Murcia Cathedral is the city's most iconic landmark. The incredible mix of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture is fascinating. Climb the tower (Tore de la Caitral) for panoramic views of the city.
After that, take a walk through the historic center. It is a maze of narrow streets, charming squares and beautiful historic buildings.
Next, take a look at the real casino de Murcia. This historic building combines a variety of styles, including Moorish and Modernists.
Or relax at Floridablanca Garden. One of Spain's oldest parks, this is perfect for a peaceful break surrounded by lush greenery, fountains and sculptures.
