The 7th Annual International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) celebrates its excellence in film and video production and its powerful role in destination marketing

One of the world's most remote islands has won the world's most remote islands, winning the gold award at the prestigious International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) held in Sandton on June 6th, and one of the world's farthest inhabitants won the world stage.

This achievement follows his early success in Japan, and was awarded the Director's Special Choice Award at the Japan World Tourism Film Festival (JWTFF).

Jonathan Passaportis, the Director of Tourism, St. Helena, said: “Getting gold at ITFFA was a special moment for everyone involved in the production. And for actress Katie Ray Williams and director Darren Peans, who attended the ceremony, we are naturally grateful. We are excited!”

For Passaportis, show us what makes St. Helena special, including this unique natural heritage, adventurous activities, and the charm of the bucket list.

“The film uses story-driven storytelling to captivate audiences and represent a bold departure from traditional tourist marketing to celebrate the wonders of St. Helena. “We hope that this award will introduce St. Helena to new audiences, green travelers, and anyone looking for an adventure that is different from others.”

Now in its seventh year, ITFFA has established itself as the premier tourist film festival in Africa, and has received over 4,000 film entries from 94 countries since its inception. The festival celebrates how film tourism promotes economic growth and destination appeal.

For St Helena, an island just 47 square miles in the South Atlantic, its population has around 4,000 locals, so this victory over entries from much larger (and more accessible) destinations strengthens the growing reputation for old pass journeys and amazing natural wonders.

“This gold award shows us that St. Helena's unique character and location is exactly what makes us shine on the global stage,” added Passaportis. “We invite travelers to come and find us and experience what St. Helena has to offer.”
