Located in a region where the sun shines brightly even in the colder months, this region of southern Spain offers a tranquil retreat with a unique blend of tradition, culture and stunning natural scenery.

The Andalucía region is known for its diversity, and cities such as Seville, Granada and Malaga are famous for their architectural wonders, historical monuments and vibrant atmosphere.

At this time of year, many Brits dream of strolling through the majestic Alhambra or strolling the ancient streets of Seville, basking in the gentle winter sunshine.

According to Andalusia's official tourism board, the region's winter temperatures remain comfortably mild, averaging 17-18 °C, making it a perfect location for outdoor adventures such as hiking and sightseeing. However, a road trip here is also ideal.

Occasional light rain is possible in the area, but a light jacket or sweater is usually warm enough to provide a comfortable shelter.

For a taste of winter fun, ski and snowboard in the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains.

You can also avoid the summer crowds and experience a more authentic regional flavor while tasting delicious local cuisine.

Trying different tapas in cozy taverns, enjoying the refreshing taste of salmorejo and enjoying fresh seafood from the Mediterranean coast are just some of the gastronomic highlights.

For those looking for something more picturesque, towns like Ronda and Nerja are year-round favorites, with Ronda's iconic bridges and bullring, and Nerja's enchanting coastal views and caves.

Meanwhile, the whitewashed villages of Frigiliana and Sahara de la Sierra are perfect for an idyllic getaway with their idyllic winter landscapes as a backdrop.

Described by TripAdvisor as a region of “characteristic architecture, sun-drenched resorts and eclectic small towns,” the region blends Moorish tradition with modern infrastructure.

From the majestic Seville Cathedral to the ancient mosques of Cordoba, there are plenty of beautiful landmarks to explore over a few days or even a week.

Immortalized by poet Federico García Lorca, Granada continues to be a romantic highlight for couples looking for a special getaway from the freezing British winters.
