Spain's “most beautiful” overlooked towns are rarely tourists | Europe | Travel

Spain is known for its beautiful towns and villages, but many of them are full of tourists. Luckily, there is a peaceful medieval town on the quiet corner of the country, which may be the perfect choice for those who want to avoid crowds.

Also, the fact is that Albaracin, located in the Aragon region of eastern Spain, was named by El Pai in 2018 as the most beautiful village in the country. It offers a pink house, a narrow cobblestone street and a spectacular view.

The town is located on a rocky hill in Teruel, about two hours from Valencia.

Despite its stunning exterior, Albarracin is a popular summer location for Spanish visitors, although relatively unexplained by international tourism.

The Aragon area welcomed over 4 million visitors in 2024.

Most came from England, France, Germany, Italy and Portugal.

However, unlike other parts of Spain, they are fighting overtourism, but Aragon actually wants more visitors.

Tourism Minister Manuel Blasco previously said it was important to build a stable flow of tourists throughout the year to support local businesses and workers.

The Albarracín is one of the hidden gems of the area.

The town is known for its ancient Muraras de Albaracin, which offers panoramic views from the medieval walls, 16th-century Caitral del Salvador, and Torre del Andador.

Its cobblestone streets are filled with historic homes, some with wooden balconies hanging in narrow alleys.

The town is surrounded by mountains and is popular with hikers and climbers.

There are scenic trails, waterfalls like Elsalto de San Pedro, and even mushroom hunting in nearby fungi parks.

For food lovers, Albaracin offers heartfelt, local cuisine made with the produce of the region.

These include traditional desserts such as migas, rabbits, lamb stew, trout and almojavana.

The tapas bar and tavern serve both classic and modern Spanish cuisine.

There are several hotels in the area, and while most locals speak only Spanish, the town's charm lies in a quiet and authentic atmosphere.

Another quiet Spanish town worth visiting is at its limit.
