One of Spain's clean cities is the “cheapest” place to stay in the country, according to domestic data, with hotels on average £47 per night.
The Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) has revealed the cheapest hotel stays in the country in 2025 after comparing around 8,000 facilities in the winter and 10,000 facilities in the summer.
Salamanca in central Spain is full of architecture and historic sites, and we found it to be the cheapest at an average of 58 euros (£47) per night.
One of the city's most famous sights is the “new” cathedral and old cathedral – if it means the 16th century. The new Gothic building boasts intricate sculptures, including curious monkeys eating ice cream. The old Romanesque sections from the 12th and 13th centuries are famous for their imposing Gallo Tower.
The Plaza Mayor is perfect for relaxing over coffee among the locals. Perhaps the novelty of a 100-year-old cafe, or perfect for trying out local tapas.
The best way to get to Salamanca from the UK is to fly to Madrid and board the train within 3 hours.
Zaragoza, in northeastern Spain, is also 50% lower than the national average, allowing you to sample local delicacies overlooking the Ebro River. On average, it costs 74 euros (61 pounds) per night, and 50 euros (41 pounds) per night for a 3-star hotel.
Granada City in Andalusia is also on the affordable list, with an average price of €61 (£50) for a 3-star hotel stay. The hilly town has a stunning Alhambra, uninterrupted views of the city, and complimentary tapas landing on the table, usually with beer.
As for more expensive destinations, Marbella is not surprisingly surprised, with the country's most expensive hotel stay at 303 euros (£250) per night, up about 8.2% compared to last year.
The Balearic Islands on the beach are closely followed at an average of 194 euros (160 pounds) per night, while the popular City Break Barcelona is also close to the top at 187 euros (162 pounds).
The highest price increases were recorded in the region of Madrid, with pricing rising by 12%, with the regional capital on average reaching 170 euros (£140) per night.
The survey showed that hotels charged an average of 112 euros (£92) per room in January, up 7.6% in the same month last year.
In January, hotel stays rose 2.5% this year compared to the first month of 2024. This increased 4.2% mainly until the increase in international tourists. Interestingly, the number of Spanish tourists staying at the hotel fell by 0.5%.
The report also found that hotel prices rose 6.1% last year.
