On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, South Africa will hold the G20's first Virtual Tourism Working Group (TWG) meeting, bringing together senior officials, authorities and experts who will chart ways to promote sustainable tourism growth among G20 countries.
The G20 TWG Conference is the first of a series of engagements taking place throughout the year ahead of the G20 Tourism Ministers' Meeting in September, promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices of Member States to create practical deliverables informed by the priorities of the next G20 tourism.
– People-centered artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation to enhance travel and tourism startups and SMME.
– Tourism funding and investment to strengthen equality and promote sustainable development.
– Air connections for seamless travel, and
• Strengthening resilience for comprehensive and sustainable tourism development.
TWG is one of the 16 working groups of the G20, tasked with finding multi-sector policy-driven solutions to promote global socioeconomic and political stability. As the first African nation to preside on the G20 presidency, South Africa will use that terminology to promote a developmental agenda that benefits the continent. Through the theme, the theme is solidarity, equality and sustainability to cultivate a better Africa and a better world.
