As a prominent player in the aviation industry, Skytanking offers a comprehensive suite of services within its global network. Regional Vice President Dave Powell discusses how the company contributes to connectivity.
Sky Services' surge to new heights
The aviation industry is an important dynamic sector that significantly strengthens global ties and promotes economic development.
Significant growth has been seen in recent years, affected by increased demand for air travel, technological advances and infrastructure improvements.
While major hubs in regions such as North America and Europe play an important role in promoting international air traffic, emerging markets, particularly in Africa, are rapidly developing, bringing new routes and improved customer experiences.
Skytanking has been uniquely positioned in the aviation industry for 25 years. Owned by PrimeFlight, it specializes in the management and handling of aviation fuels, making it an important part of the sector.
The company plays a key role in the global network of companies providing air services to airports, carriers and passengers.
“Aviation fuel management and handling is the backbone of Skytanking and provides a strong foothold for all efforts. Additionally, since 2023, we have complemented our fuel activity by establishing a robust European position in ground processing and cargo.”
With a commitment to meeting all the industry needs, Skytanking's services include area fuel fuel, ground processing, aviation fuel storage, fuel facility investments and engineering services to assist airlines, airports and oil customers.
Meanwhile, PrimeFlight has expanded its presence in the aviation sector as an integrated service provider. The company focuses on improving the efficiency of airlines and airports, and has had a major impact by helping Skytanking optimize its operations.
“Since purchasing SkyTankking, PrimeFlight has grown rapidly through strategic investments, maintaining its position and brand placement as a market leader in the sector,” he says.
“Through this acquisition, we will also be able to relocate offers to our customers and partners through a direct expansion of ground processing activities in Europe, providing integrated passenger, fuel and ground operation services.”

Aviation innovation
A critical sector for many industries around the world, aviation supports international trade, tourism and business.
As major U.S. and European hubs support global air traffic and more African markets emerge, airlines are responding by launching new routes and improving customer experiences.
Similarly, sustainability is becoming increasingly important as many aviation companies invest in fuel-efficient aircraft and alternative fuels to reduce carbon emissions.
Despite challenges such as regulatory hurdles and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the industry's recovery and ongoing investment promise a bright future focused on efficiency and connections in a globalized world.
In fact, the government recognizes the economic growth and job creation potential of the aviation sector, bringing efforts to improve the regulatory environment and investment in aviation projects.
Furthermore, advances in aircraft technology and environmentally friendly practices make air travel more accessible and sustainable.
Given the many opportunities that arise with the ongoing transformation of the aviation industry, Powell feels it is a technologically evolving field.
“We have been recently asked to help manage centralized IT and health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) departments to build central services to support both our current site and growth,” he reveals.
Powell is responsible for overseeing business and operational activities related to fuel operations in certain regions, including the UK and Ireland, Nordic, Southern Europe, and Africa.
“One of the most interesting elements of my role is the diversity of the business I am exposed to and the people and culture that support them. It is our staff who shape our frontline and passenger-facing experiences and ensure that quality and safety are us and an integral part of what we are doing,” he enthusiasm.
“The competitiveness of the sector provides a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and our growth strategy creates a rich mix of new experiences while still very close and relevant to the everyday needs of customers in the airport environment.”

State-of-the-art service
Skytanking utilizes innovative, cutting-edge technologies and systems in fuel management and logistics.
“Airport fuel management systems have historically been based on simple technology. However, over the past decade or so,
Web-based technology, the need for this heavy human activities to become more efficient, and an introduction
Of the new providers to the IT space, considerable advances in the technologies used are forced. ”
Additionally, its airlines and fuel customers need real-time connectivity, where information is driven by innovations in data capabilities from commoditized aircraft and airborne.
“At Skytanking, we are actively working with our partners to improve the use of our technology while increasing standards,” Powell assures.
In addition to new technologies, sustainability is very high on the company's agenda, with measures in place to minimize the environmental impact of fuel supply and storage.
“At the heart of all of our activities is the need to provide safe operations while protecting the fuel quality we manage for our clients. This responsibility comes with an absolute need to protect our staff's work environment and respect their surroundings,” he outlines.
“As laws and standards raise awareness and ensure tighter control of the risks associated with fuel use and handling, we need to ensure that all operational focus is synchronized and we are driving to improve standards. That's what we expect from both the industry and the community.”

Industry agility
Skytanking offers professional services to various airport capabilities and sizes and has close ties with both Scottish Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) and general aviation partners.
“The company's experience and size allow us to enjoy the agility of the market that others may not match,” Powell takes pride.
“For the past two years, we have achieved great growth in new airports in cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town (South Africa) and Oslo (Norway)” has also purchased a variety of UK ground handling companies and provided a platform for Scotland's experience.
Skytanking's growth was bolstered by its acquisition, particularly the acquisition of Air Force Base GSE, which features ground support equipment (GSE) and AirWorld handling.
Purchase of Airbase GSE improves ground handling services and operational efficiency at major airports by providing repair and logistics services for air cargo unit load devices (ULD) at London Heathrow Airport (UK) and Frankfurt Airport (Germany) as well as cabin repair and maintenance services.
Meanwhile, Airworld's handling is a freight and postal handler with a complementary border inspection post (BIP) business operating at London Heathrow Airport.
Both acquisitions mean Skytanking's borders and cargo security and ULD management. This brings valuable expertise and connections that align with the company's goal of expanding service delivery and geographical coverage.
“Skytanking has a global reach with the inclusion of the PrimeFlight site, providing many services to customers around the world, as well as an engineering and technical services department that provides specific professional assistance to clients, even if they do not currently exist in that particular country.
“We also have heritage areas in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. In recent years, Australia is excited to expand organically and helplessly in Australia and develop strong relationships in the Middle East and Asia,” concludes Powell.
As the aviation industry progresses, there are numerous opportunities for growth, innovation and enhanced service delivery, all contributing to a more interrelated world, and Skytanking is poised to become an important component of this evolution.
