SAS has ordered up to 55 Embraer 195-E2 aircraft for the SAS Link Regional Operation.
Approximately 45 of Pratt & Whitney PW1900G-powered jets are solid orders, 10 are options, delivery began in late 2027 and continues at a monthly rate of about four years.
Speaking at an event announcing orders in Copenhagen on July 1, SAS CEO Anko van der Werff described the deal as “a massive” for the airline, “representing the next step in SAS on our transformation journey.”
“We needed something to start building the hub in Copenhagen,” he said, adding that E2S would also support growth in SAS's secondary hubs in Oslo and Stockholm.
This order is “a great sign for Scandinavia's greater benefits,” adds Van der Welf.
He says the E2S will have “about 136 seats.” This means that the A320Neo is too big and fits into the marketplace with SAS's CRJ and ATR too small.
SAS Link was released in 2021 and currently runs a fleet of 13 E195.
SAS appeared in 2024 from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection, along with new stakeholders, including Air France-KLM. That post-restructuring strategy included focusing on Copenhagen as a major hub, joining the SkyTeam Alliance in September.
