Saruni Basecamp has expanded its commitment to sustainable tourism across all 13 properties in Kenya, achieving a significant milestone by becoming a first-time group member in the long term.
Participating as a member of the accommodation in 2020 at four properties, Saruni Basecamp has brought the entire portfolio under the long-term framework of 4CS (conservation, community, culture and commercial framework).
Operated within six community-owned wildlife sanctuaries in Kenya, Saruni Basecamp offers a pioneering and ethical safari experience that is deeply rooted in community-based conservation. Their business model shows how tourism directly empowers environmental protection rather than simply coexisting.
The partnership demonstrates the interdependence of tourism and conservation through practical sustainability initiatives, from solar power facilities and wildlife monitoring programs to investments in renewable energy, local supply chains and waste reduction.
“This is what makes you look like a responsible tourist,” says Jeremiah Mutisha, CEO of Saruni Basecamp. “Success is measured both by an extraordinary guest experience and a lasting positive impact on the community and ecosystem.”
